# Getting a WHMCS licence

> WHMCS licences are sold and issued only by WHMCS. How to buy one, choose the right plan and use it with your Ruachost hosting.

You need a **WHMCS licence** to install and run WHMCS. Licences are sold and issued **only by WHMCS**, not by Ruachost.

## Buy a licence

1. Go to [whmcs.com/pricing](https://www.whmcs.com/pricing/).
2. Choose a plan. Plans differ mainly in how many active clients you can have, and whether the "Powered by WHMCS" branding is shown to your customers.
3. Complete the order with WHMCS. They email you your **licence key**, and it also appears in your WHMCS account.

> **Tip:**
A monthly plan is the easiest way to start. You can upgrade to a bigger plan with WHMCS as your client list grows.

## Use it with Ruachost

WHMCS runs on any Ruachost **cPanel hosting** plan, and on a **Managed VPS**. Enter your licence key during installation. See [How to install WHMCS on cPanel](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/apps/softaculous/installing-whmcs-using-softaculous/).

## Moving WHMCS or fixing "License Invalid"

Each licence is locked to the domain, IP address and folder where WHMCS is installed. If you move WHMCS to a new domain, server or folder, **reissue** the licence in your WHMCS account (**Services → your licence → Reissue**), then reload your WHMCS admin area.
