**Configuring a shared address book in Roundcube webmail**\
Learn how to enable a shared (global) address book in Roundcube so contacts can be shared across multiple e-mail accounts in your organization.

This article explains how to set up a shared address book in Roundcube. For example, you can add a [user@example.com](mailto:user@example.com) entry in the shared address book, and all e-mail users will be able to access it from their own accounts.

**Configuring a shared address book**\
To set up a shared address book in Roundcube, follow these steps:

1. **Install Roundcube** either manually or using Softaculous.\
   **Note:** For instructions on installing Roundcube with Softaculous, see this article.
2. ## Enable the PHP ldap extension

   - Log in to cPanel.
   - In the SOFTWARE section, click **Select PHP Version**.
   - Under PHP Extensions, check **ldap**.
3. **Log in via SSH** and navigate to the Roundcube installation directory, for example:

   ```
   cd ~/public_html/roundcube
   ```
4. ## Install the shared address book plugin

   ```
   composer require johndoh/globaladdressbook
   ```
5. **Configure the plugin** by editing `plugins/globaladdressbook/config.inc.php` and adjusting the following options:

   - **name**: The name of the shared address book as it appears in users' contact lists. Default is `Shared Contacts`.
   - **perms**: By default, read-only; only admin users can modify contacts. Change to allow regular users if desired.
   - **groups**: Enable groups in the shared address book by setting to `true`.
   - **admin**: Define the admin user, e.g., `'admin' = 'admin@example.com'`.
   - **autocomplete**: Set to `true` to enable addresses to appear automatically when composing messages.
   - **visibility**: Controls which users can see the shared address book; default is all users.

6. **Access the shared address book:**\
   Log in to Roundcube with a valid account, click **Contacts** in the left sidebar, and you will see the Shared Contacts entry (or the custom name you set). From here, you can manage contacts in the shared address book.
