# Installing Ghost themes

Ghost themes allow you to customize the appearance of your website. This guide explains how to install a theme on your Ghost site.

## Steps to Install a Ghost Theme

1. Download the `.zip` file for the theme you want from [Ghost Marketplace](http://marketplace.ghost.org/).
2. Log in to your site using **FTP**.
3. Navigate to `installation_directory/content/themes`, where `installation_directory` is your Ghost installation folder, and upload the `.zip` file.
4. Log in to your site using **SSH**.
5. Navigate to the themes directory:

   ```
   cd installation_directory/content/themes
   ```

6. Unzip the theme file (replace `filename.zip` with your uploaded file):

```
unzip filename.zip
```

7. Restart Ghost.
8. Log in to Ghost as the administrator.
9. On the top menu, click **Settings** → **General** → scroll to the **Theme** section.
10. Select your new theme from the list and click **Save**.
11. Visit your site’s home page to see it using the new theme.
