**Memcached** is an open‑source memory object caching system that stores frequently accessed data in RAM. This helps accelerate page load times and improve overall performance. On **ruachost.com**, you can configure PrestaShop to use Memcached once it is installed on your server.

## Why Use Memcached?

- Speeds up database queries by caching results.
- Reduces server load and improves scalability.
- Enhances customer experience with faster page loads.

## Steps to Configure PrestaShop with Memcached

### Step 1: Ensure Memcached is Installed

- On **Managed VPS/Dedicated Servers** → Open a support ticket in the **ruachost.com Hosting Panel** and request Memcached installation.
- On **Unmanaged VPS** → Install Memcached manually via SSH.
- Memcached is not available on every shared hosting plan. [Contact Ruachost support](https://dashboard.ruachost.com/submitticket.php) to confirm availability for your account.

### Step 2: Configure PrestaShop

1. Log in to PrestaShop as the **administrator**.
2. On the top menu bar, click **Advanced Parameters → Performance**.
3. Scroll down to the **Caching** section.
4. Under **Use cache**, select **Yes**.
5. Under **Caching system**, select **Memcached**.
6. Click **Add server**.

   - **IP Address** → `127.0.0.1` (or your server’s IP if remote).
   - **Port** → `11211` (default Memcached port).
   - **Weight** → `1`.
7. Click **Add Server**.
8. Click **Save**.

✅ PrestaShop will now use Memcached to cache data and improve performance.
