# Automatic renewal and saved cards

> How Ruachost renewals work, saving or removing a card for automatic payment, and turning domain auto-renew on or off.

## How renewals work

1. **30 days before** a service is due, we create a renewal invoice and email it to you.
2. If you have **account credit**, it's applied to the invoice automatically.
3. If you have a **saved card**, it's **charged automatically** for the invoice.
4. Otherwise, pay the invoice yourself any time before the due date. We send reminders.

## Save a card for automatic payment

1. Go to **Billing → Payment Methods** in the [client area](https://dashboard.ruachost.com/clientarea.php).
2. Click **Add New Credit Card** (or the option shown) and enter your card details.
3. Set it as your **default** payment method.

You can also tick the option to save your card when paying an invoice. Card details are stored securely by our payment provider, not by Ruachost.

## Remove or change a saved card

Go to **Billing → Payment Methods** and click **Delete** next to the card, or add a new card and make it the default. If you remove all saved cards, you'll need to pay each renewal invoice yourself.

## If an automatic payment fails

We email you if a saved card can't be charged, for example because it has expired or your bank declined it. Pay the invoice with another method, and update your saved card. See [Payment declined or failed](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/billing/guides/payment-declined-or-failed/).

## Domain auto-renew

Domains renew automatically by default. To turn this off for a domain:

1. Go to **Domains → My Domains** and open the domain.
2. Turn **Auto Renew** off.

With auto-renew off, no renewal invoice is created. You must renew the domain yourself before it expires, or it will stop working. See [Renewing an expired domain](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/domains/guides/renewing-an-expired-domain/).

## Stop a service renewing

To stop a hosting plan or other service renewing, request cancellation. Open the service and click **Request Cancellation**, then choose **End of billing period**. See [Ruachost billing FAQ](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/billing/guides/ruachost-billing-faq/).
