# I was charged a different amount

> Why your bank or card statement shows a different amount from your Ruachost invoice, such as currency conversion, bank fees or VAT.

First, compare your statement with the **invoice total** in the client area under **Billing → My Invoices**, not with the price on our website. Then check these common reasons.

## The invoice includes VAT

Prices on our website may not include VAT. Where VAT applies, it's added to your invoice as a separate line. See [Managing your profile and account details](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/getting-started/client-area/managing-your-profile-in-the-client-area/).

## Currency conversion

If your card or bank account is in a different currency from your Ruachost account (NGN, USD or EUR), your bank converts the amount using **its own exchange rate**, which may differ from the rate you see online. The amount on your statement can be higher or lower than you expected.

To avoid this, pay with a card in the same currency as your invoice, or ask us to [change your account currency](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/billing/guides/changing-your-account-currency/).

## Bank or payment fees

Your bank may add its own fees, such as international transaction fees, FX fees or transfer charges. These are charged by your bank, not by Ruachost, and appear as separate lines on your statement.

## Account credit was used

If you had account credit, part of the invoice was paid with it, so only the remaining amount was charged.

## Upgrades and prorated amounts

When you upgrade a plan, you pay only the difference for the rest of your billing period, so the amount can be smaller than the plan's full price. See [Changing your billing cycle and upgrading](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/billing/guides/changing-your-billing-cycle-and-upgrading/).
