**Installing the EPEL repository on AlmaLinux**\
Learn how to set up the Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux (EPEL) repository on an unmanaged AlmaLinux server, allowing you to install additional Fedora-based packages.

This article explains how to enable the EPEL repository on an unmanaged AlmaLinux server. With EPEL, you can access and install more Fedora-based packages on your AlmaLinux system.

> **Note:**
You need root access to the server to perform the steps outlined in this article.

**Installing the EPEL repository**\
To install the EPEL repository on your AlmaLinux unmanaged server, follow these steps:

1. Log in to the server as the root user.
2. Update the server by typing the following command at the prompt:

```
yum -y update
```

3. Install the EPEL repository using this command:

```
yum -y install epel-release
```

4. Verify that the EPEL repository has been added by running:

```
yum repolist
```

You should see a line similar to the following in the repository list:

```
epel         Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux 6 - x86_64
```

Once the repository is enabled, you can install any of the packages available in EPEL.
