Learn how to install Docker on a managed Dedicated Server running AlmaLinux. This configuration is not officially supported.

### About Docker

Docker is an open-source application deployment framework. It allows you to deploy applications in self-contained environments, providing portability and ease of distribution.

#### Important

- Docker can only be installed on a managed Dedicated Server with root access.
- While this configuration has been tested, it is not supported. Use it as a starting point for your own Docker projects. Support for installation, configuration, or troubleshooting is not provided.

### Installing Docker on AlmaLinux

**Note:** If AlmaLinux is not already installed, you must install the operating system template before continuing.

1. **Log in via SSH** as the root user.
2. #### Update the system

```
yum -y update
reboot
```

After the system restarts, log back in via SSH.

3. #### Add the EPEL repository

```
yum -y install epel-release
```

4. #### Verify the EPEL repository

```
yum repolist
```

You should see a line like:

```
epel         Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux 6 - x86_64
```

5. #### Install Docker

```
yum -y install docker-io
```

6. #### Start the Docker service

```
service docker start
```

To enable Docker to start automatically at boot:

```
chkconfig docker on
```

7. #### Verify Docker installation

```
docker run fedora /bin/echo hello world
```

The first time this command runs, Docker downloads the Fedora container image, then executes the command. You should see:

```
hello world
```

**Tip:** Run an interactive shell in the container:

```
docker run -i -t fedora /bin/bash
```

To exit the interactive shell, type:

```
exit
```
