The **DNS Manager** lets you add and edit your domain's DNS records straight from the Ruachost client area. It's **free** for domains that use Ruachost's nameservers (`nsa.ruachost.com` and `nsb.ruachost.com`), whether or not you have hosting with us.

> **DNS Manager or cPanel?:**
If you have hosting, you can manage DNS in either place: the client area DNS Manager or cPanel's **Zone Editor**. They **stay in sync**, so a change in one shows up in the other. Use whichever you prefer.

## Open the DNS Manager

1. Log in to the [client area](https://dashboard.ruachost.com).
2. Go to **Domains → Manage DNS**.
3. Find your domain in the list, or search for it.
4. Click the **edit (pencil) icon** next to the domain.

If your domain isn't listed, click **Add DNS Zone**, choose the domain, and enter your hosting account's IP address (or any IP address you want the domain to point to). See [Finding the IP address for your hosting account](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/cpanel/getting-started/finding-the-ip-address-for-your-hosting-account-on-cpanel/).

## The records you'll see

| Record | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **SOA** and **NS** | Set up automatically. Leave them as they are. |
| **A** | Points your domain, or a subdomain, to an IPv4 address |
| **CNAME** | Makes a subdomain, such as `www`, an alias of another name |
| **MX** | Says which server receives your email |
| **TXT** | Holds text values, such as SPF, DKIM, DMARC and verification codes |

Each record has a **Name** (`@` means the domain itself), a **Type**, a **TTL** (how long other servers may cache it, in seconds) and its **value**.

## Add a record

1. Click **+ Add Record**.
2. Choose the record **type**.
3. Fill in the **Name**, **TTL** and value. For example, to make `www` an alias of your domain: type **CNAME**, name `www`, value `example.com`.
4. Click **Confirm**.

To change or remove a record, use the **edit** or **delete (bin)** icon next to it.

Changes are live on our nameservers straight away. Other networks pick them up as their cached copies expire, usually within a few hours. See [DNS propagation explained](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/domains/dns/when-can-i-see-changes-in-my-domain-if-i-just-edited-my-dns-records/).

## More options

- **Bulk Management:** change records for several domains at once.
- **Backup:** download your DNS records, or restore them from a backup file.
- **DNSSEC:** add an extra layer of security. See [How to enable DNSSEC](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/domains/dns/how-to-enable-dnssec-from-your-client-area/).
