**Registrar lock** (also called transfer lock) protects your domain from being transferred to another registrar without your permission. Keep it **on** at all times, except while you're transferring the domain away.

## Turn registrar lock on or off

1. Log in to the [client area](https://dashboard.ruachost.com).
2. Go to **Domains → My Domains** and select your domain.
3. Open **Registrar Lock**.
4. Click **Enable Registrar Lock** or **Disable Registrar Lock**.

The change takes effect within a few minutes.

## When to unlock

Only unlock your domain when you're ready to [transfer it to another registrar](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/domains/guides/transferring-a-domain-out-of-ruachost/). Lock it again if you change your mind.

You don't need to unlock your domain to change nameservers, edit DNS records, renew or update contact details.

## If you don't see Registrar Lock

Some extensions don't support registrar lock, including some country domains. These are protected by their registry instead. If you need help, [open a support ticket](https://dashboard.ruachost.com/submitticket.php).
