Your domain is registered in your name, so you're free to move it to another registrar. You can do everything yourself in the client area.

## Before you start

- **The domain must be active.** An expired domain must be renewed first. `.ng` domains can't be transferred during their grace period.
- **New or recently transferred domains** usually can't be moved for **60 days** after registration or a previous transfer. This is a registry rule.
- **Your contact email must be correct.** Check it in [your domain contact details](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/domains/guides/updating-your-domain-contact-details/), because transfer approvals are sent there.
- **Hosting and email:** transferring a domain doesn't move your website or email. If they're hosted with Ruachost, they keep working as long as the domain's nameservers stay the same.

## Step 1: Unlock the domain

1. Log in to the [client area](https://dashboard.ruachost.com) and go to **Domains → My Domains**.
2. Select the domain.
3. Open **Registrar Lock**, click **Disable Registrar Lock**, and confirm.

See [Locking and unlocking your domain](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/domains/guides/locking-and-unlocking-your-domain/).

## Step 2: Get the EPP code

1. On the same domain page, select **Get EPP Code**.
2. The code is shown on screen or sent to the registrant's email address.
3. Copy it exactly. It's case-sensitive.

The EPP code (also called an auth code or transfer key) proves you own the domain. Keep it private.

## Step 3: Start the transfer at the new registrar

Order a domain transfer at your new registrar and enter the EPP code. Most transfers include one extra year of registration, which the new registrar charges for.

## Step 4: Approve the transfer

You may receive an email asking you to confirm. Approve it to speed things up. International domains usually move within **5–7 days**.
