Every domain has contact details stored with the registry: the **registrant** (the legal owner), plus administrative, technical and billing contacts. Keeping them accurate matters:

- Transfer approvals and renewal notices are sent to these contacts.
- Registries require accurate details. Wrong or unverified details can lead to your domain being **suspended**.
- If there's ever a dispute, the registrant is the legal owner of the domain.

## Update your contact details

1. Log in to the [client area](https://dashboard.ruachost.com).
2. Go to **Domains → My Domains** and select your domain.
3. Open **Contact Information**.
4. Update the details for each contact. To copy your account details into a contact, choose **Use existing account contact**.
5. Click **Save Changes**.

Changes are sent to the registry straight away.

> **Caution:**
If you change the registrant's **name, organisation or email address** on a `.com` or other international domain, you'll receive a verification email. Click the link within 15 days, or the domain will be suspended. See [Domain is suspended for ICANN domain verification](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/domains/guides/domain-is-suspended-for-icann-domain-verification/).

## Changing the owner (registrant)

To hand a domain to a new owner, for example after selling a business, you can update the registrant details yourself as above. If the new owner also has a Ruachost account, we can [move the domain to their account](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/domains/guides/moving-a-domain-to-another-ruachost-account/).

## Proof of ownership

Ruachost doesn't issue domain registration certificates. Your domain's registration details in the client area, and its public WHOIS or registry record, are your proof of ownership. See [Checking a domain's WHOIS and nameservers](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/domains/guides/checking-a-domains-whois-and-nameservers/).
