# Do you support resource-intensive applications?

> Not on shared hosting. Heavy tasks such as video encoding hit your account's resource limits. A Managed VPS gives you more dedicated resources.

**Not on shared hosting.** Applications that use a lot of CPU or memory for long periods, such as audio and video encoding with `ffmpeg` or `lame`, can't run on Ruachost shared hosting plans.

## Why

On shared hosting, many websites share the same server. Each account has resource limits for CPU, memory and running processes, so one busy account can't slow down everyone else. A heavy task quickly reaches those limits. When that happens, the task is slowed down or stopped, and your website may show errors such as **503** or **508**.

Examples of tasks that aren't suitable for shared hosting:

- Converting or encoding audio and video.
- Long-running background processes or daemons.
- Headless browsers, large scrapers or crawlers.
- Heavy data processing or machine learning jobs.

## What you can do

- **Check your usage.** See how close you are to your limits in cPanel. See [Monitoring resource limits in cPanel](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/cpanel/logs-and-statistics/monitoring-resource-limits-in-cpanel/).
- **Move to a Managed VPS.** A [Managed VPS](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/vps/) gives you your own share of server resources, which suits more demanding applications. See [What is VPS hosting?](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/vps/guides/what-is-vps-hosting/)
- **Ask us.** If you're not sure what your application needs, [contact support](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/getting-started/guides/contact-support/) and tell us what you plan to run.
