# Images not showing on my website

> Images on your website are broken, missing or show old versions. Here's how to fix wrong paths, HTTPS mixed content, permissions, hotlink protection and caching.

Right-click a broken image and choose **Open image in new tab**. The address and the error you get tell you the cause.

## The image shows 404 Not Found

The file isn't where the page expects it.

- **Check the name and case.** `Photo.JPG` and `photo.jpg` are different files on our servers.
- **Check the file was uploaded,** to the folder in the address.
- **After moving your site or changing domain,** images may still point to the old address. In WordPress, update the old addresses in your database. See [Changing the website URL in WordPress](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/wordpress/guides/changing-the-website-url-in-wordpress/) and [Fixing broken image links in WordPress](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/wordpress/guides/fixing-broken-image-links-in-wordpress/).

## The image address starts with http://

If your site uses HTTPS but images use `http://` addresses, browsers block them as **mixed content**. See [Fixing mixed content warnings](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/ssl-security/ssl-certificates/mixing-of-secure-and-insecure-content-on-a-web-page/).

## The image shows 403 Forbidden

- **Permissions are wrong.** Image files should be `644` and folders `755`. Fix them in cPanel's File Manager with **Change Permissions**.
- **Hotlink protection is blocking it.** If you turned on **Hotlink Protection** in cPanel, add every address your site uses, including `www.` and non-`www.` versions, to the allowed list. See [Configuring hotlink protection in cPanel](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/cpanel/security/configuring-hotlink-protection-in-cpanel/).

## You replaced an image but still see the old one

Your browser, your site's cache or Cloudflare is showing a saved copy. See [Clearing your cache](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/getting-started/website-troubleshooting/clearing-your-cache/). Uploading the new image with a different file name avoids the problem.

## Images load slowly or look blurry

Large photos slow your site down. Resize them to the size they're shown (usually no wider than 2000 pixels) and compress them before uploading. In WordPress, see [Optimizing images with LiteSpeed Cache](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/wordpress/guides/optimizing-images-for-wordpress-with-litespeed-cache/). If lazy loading or image optimisation in a caching plugin causes blank images, turn those options off to test.

## Images look wrong when shared on Facebook
