# My IP address is blocked

> Your website, cPanel, webmail or email works on mobile data but not on your usual network. Here's how to check if your IP address is blocked and get it unblocked.

To protect your account from attacks, our servers' firewall automatically blocks IP addresses that look like they're attacking, for example after **many failed logins**. If your own IP address is blocked, everything on that server stops working for everyone on your network, while it still works for everyone else.

## Signs your IP address is blocked

- Your website, cPanel or webmail **times out** or "can't be reached", but works on your phone using **mobile data**, or for people elsewhere.
- Your email app keeps asking for your password, then stops connecting completely.
- Everyone in your office has the problem at the same time.

To check, turn off Wi-Fi on your phone and open your website on mobile data. If it loads, your network's IP address is probably blocked.

## Common causes

- **An old password saved in an email app,** often on a phone or another computer in the office, trying again and again after you changed it
- Typing the wrong password for cPanel, webmail, FTP or WordPress several times
- Many failed WordPress login attempts from your network
- A computer on your network infected with malware

## Get unblocked

1. Find your public IP address: search **"what is my IP"** on the blocked network.
2. [Open a support ticket](https://dashboard.ruachost.com/submitticket.php) from a different network (for example mobile data), or use [live chat, WhatsApp or phone](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/getting-started/guides/contact-support/). Include:
   - your IP address
   - your domain name
   - what you were doing when it stopped working
3. We'll check why it was blocked and remove the block.

## Stop it happening again

**Before we unblock you, fix the cause**, or the IP address is blocked again:

- Update the password in **every** email app and device that uses your mailboxes. See [Setting up email on your devices](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/email/guides/cpanel-email-settings/).
- Use a password manager, so passwords are typed correctly.
- Scan the computers on your network for malware.
- Protect WordPress with [limited login attempts](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/wordpress/guides/limiting-login-attempts-on-wordpress-using-a-plugin/).

## Not blocked, but still can't connect?

If the site doesn't work on mobile data either, the problem isn't your IP address. See [My website isn't working. Where do I start?](https://helpcenter.ruachost.com/getting-started/website-troubleshooting/website-not-working-where-to-start/)
