When connecting to your Ruachost hosting account via FTP, you may sometimes encounter the error message:

```
421 Too many connections (8) from this IP
```

his article explains why this happens and how to resolve it.

## Problem

You receive the error message above when attempting to connect to your hosting account using FTP. The connection is refused, and you cannot transfer files.

## Cause

For stability and security, Ruachost limits the number of **simultaneous FTP connections** from a single IP address.

- The maximum allowed is **8 concurrent connections**.
- If your FTP client tries to open more than this limit, the server will block the connection and display the error.

This often happens when:

- Your FTP client is configured to open multiple connections for faster transfers.
- You have multiple users or devices connecting from the same IP address.
- Previous FTP sessions did not close properly and remain active.

## Resolution

### 1. Limit Simultaneous Connections in Your FTP Client

Most FTP clients allow you to control the number of connections. For example, in **FileZilla**:

1. Open **FileZilla**.
2. Go to **File → Site Manager**.
3. Select your site entry.
4. Click the **Transfer Settings** tab.
5. Check **Limit number of simultaneous connections**.
6. Set the maximum to **4 or fewer** (well below the server limit of 8).
7. Click **OK** to save.

This ensures your client never exceeds the server’s connection limit.

### 2. Close Idle Connections

- Make sure you disconnect properly after each FTP session.
- In FileZilla, click **Server → Disconnect** when finished.
- Avoid leaving multiple tabs or sessions open unnecessarily.

### 3. Wait for Stale Sessions to Expire

If you still see the error, it may be due to old sessions that haven’t closed yet.

- Wait a few minutes for the server to clear them automatically.
- Then reconnect with fewer simultaneous connections.
