WordPress does not allow you to directly edit an account’s username from the dashboard. However, there are several reliable methods to change it. On **ruachost.com**, you can update usernames using the dashboard (by creating a new user), via phpMyAdmin, or with a plugin.

## Why Change a Username?

- Improve security (avoid using “admin” as the default username).
- Standardize usernames for team members.
- Correct mistakes made during account creation.

## Methods to Change a Username

### 1. Create a New User (Recommended)

1. Log in to WordPress as an administrator.
2. Go to **Users → Add New**.
3. Enter the desired **username**, email, and password.
4. Assign the role **Administrator**.
5. Log out and log back in with the new account.
6. Delete the old account.

   - WordPress will ask if you want to transfer posts/pages to the new user.
   - Select **Attribute all content to new user**.

✅ This is the safest method and ensures all content is preserved.

### 2. Use phpMyAdmin (Advanced)

1. Log in to **cPanel** at **ruachost.com**.
2. Under **Databases**, click **phpMyAdmin**.
3. Select your WordPress database.
4. Open the **wp_users** table.
5. Locate the account you want to change.
6. Click **Edit**.
7. Update the **user_login** field with the new username.
8. Click **Go** to save changes.

⚠️ Be cautious incorrect edits may break login functionality.

### 3. Use a Plugin

1. Log in to WordPress as an administrator.
2. Go to **Plugins → Add New**.
3. Search for **Username Changer** or similar plugins.
4. Install and activate the plugin.
5. Use the plugin’s interface to change the username safely.

> **Note:**
- WordPress does not allow direct username edits in the dashboard.
- Always back up your database before making changes.
- Avoid using “admin” or other generic usernames for security reasons.
