WordPress includes thousands of themes for customizing your site’s appearance. Sometimes, however, you may want to **disable** or even **delete** an installed theme, particularly if it is causing problems or you no longer need it. On **ruachost.com**, you can do this either through the WordPress dashboard or manually.

## Why Disable or Delete a Theme?

- Free up server space by removing unused themes.
- Reduce potential security risks from outdated themes.
- Prevent conflicts with plugins or other themes.
- Keep your WordPress installation clean and optimized.

## Method 1: Disable a Theme via Dashboard

1. **Log in to WordPress** as the administrator.
2. Go to **Dashboard → Appearance → Themes**.
3. Click **Add New** → Search for or upload a new theme.
4. Click **Install**, then **Activate**.
5. The new theme becomes active, and the old theme is automatically disabled.

## Method 2: Disable a Theme Manually

If you cannot access the WordPress dashboard:

1. **Log in to cPanel** (or your hosting control panel).
2. Open **File Manager** → Navigate to `public_html/wp-content/themes`.
3. Note the theme names in the directory.
4. Open **phpMyAdmin** → Select your WordPress database.
5. Go to the **wp_options** table.
6. Locate the rows `template` and `stylesheet`.
7. Change their values to another installed theme name.
8. Save changes → The new theme is active, and the old one is disabled.

## Method 3: Delete a Theme via Dashboard

1. **Log in to WordPress** as the administrator.
2. Go to **Dashboard → Appearance → Themes**.
3. Locate the theme you want to delete → Click **Theme Details**.
4. Click **Delete** (bottom right).
5. Confirm deletion → WordPress removes the theme files.

⚠️ Note: You cannot delete the currently active theme.

## Method 4: Delete a Theme Manually

1. **Log in to cPanel** (or your hosting control panel).
2. Open **File Manager** → Navigate to `public_html/wp-content/themes`.
3. Right‑click the folder of the theme you want to delete → Select **Delete**.
4. Confirm deletion → The theme files are removed.

⚠️ If you delete the active theme, WordPress will attempt to use another installed theme. If none exist, you must install a new theme manually and update the `wp_options` table.

## Important Notes

- Always back up your site before disabling or deleting themes.
- Use a **child theme** if you plan to customize themes, so updates don’t overwrite changes.
- Keep at least one fallback theme (like **Twenty Twenty‑Five**) installed.
