Copying a WordPress site to another domain with WP Toolkit

Ce contenu n’est pas encore disponible dans votre langue.

WP Toolkit’s Clone makes a complete copy of a WordPress site, including its files, database and settings, on another domain or subdomain in the same hosting account. Use it to:

  • Add the target domain or subdomain to your hosting account in cPanel under Domains, if it isn’t there yet.
  • The target folder must be empty, or contain nothing you want to keep. Cloning overwrites it.
  • Check you have enough disk space for a second copy of the site.
  1. Log in to cPanel and open WordPress Management (WP Toolkit).
  2. Find the site you want to copy and click Clone.
  3. Under Target, choose the domain or subdomain for the copy, or create a new subdomain.
  4. Check the database name WP Toolkit suggests. You can keep it.
  5. Click Start.

WP Toolkit copies everything and updates the site address in the copy’s database, so links point to the new domain.

  • Log in to the copy from WP Toolkit with Log in. The users and passwords are the same as the original.
  • Hide test copies from Google: in the copy’s WordPress dashboard, go to Settings → Reading and tick Discourage search engines from indexing this site. You can also switch off Search engine indexing for the copy in WP Toolkit.
  • Check SSL: the free SSL certificate for a new domain or subdomain is usually issued within a few hours. See Your free SSL certificate.
  • Email and forms: update contact forms and email settings in the copy, so messages go to the right place.

Clone only works within one hosting account. To copy a site to a different account, use Copy Data in WP Toolkit if both accounts are on the same server, or a migration plugin such as All-in-One WP Migration. See Fixing All-in-One WP Migration import and export problems.
