Can't log in to cPanel? Troubleshooting cPanel access
If you can’t open or log in to cPanel, the error message you see usually points to the cause. Find your error below, then follow the matching fix.
| Error you see | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| The login is invalid | Wrong username or password |
| Connection refused or Connection reset | Blocked port, server maintenance, or your domain doesn’t point to our server yet |
| Connection timed out | Your IP address is blocked, a blocked port, or DNS changes still spreading |
| Name not resolved / DNS address could not be found | Your domain doesn’t point to our server yet, or DNS changes still spreading |
| Your IP address has changed. Please log in again | Your internet provider gives you a changing (dynamic) IP address |
| cPanel loads without icons, or logs you out | Cloudflare is proxying your cPanel address |
The easiest way in: your client area
Section titled “The easiest way in: your client area”You don’t need to remember a separate cPanel password. Log in to the Ruachost client area, open Services → My Services, select your hosting plan, and click Log in to cPanel. This works even when your domain isn’t pointed to us yet.
You can also log in directly at cpanel.ruachost.com with the cPanel username and password from your hosting welcome email.
“The login is invalid”
Section titled ““The login is invalid””- Check the cPanel username and password in your hosting welcome email. Make sure you haven’t copied any extra spaces.
- If it still fails, reset your cPanel password from your hosting plan’s page in the client area.
- If the new password doesn’t work either, our server may have temporarily blocked your IP address after several failed attempts. Open a support ticket and we’ll check.
Your domain doesn’t point to our server
Section titled “Your domain doesn’t point to our server”Addresses such as example.com/cpanel or cpanel.example.com only work once your domain points to your Ruachost server.
- Using our nameservers: your domain should use
nsa.ruachost.comandnsb.ruachost.com. If your domain is registered with another company, ask them to change the nameservers, or update them in their control panel. - Using an A record: make sure the A record points to the IP address in your hosting welcome email. You can also find it in cPanel under General Information → Server Information.
Until then, use the client area or cpanel.ruachost.com.
DNS changes still spreading (propagation)
Section titled “DNS changes still spreading (propagation)”After you change nameservers, it can take up to 24 hours (occasionally longer) for internet providers around the world to update. This can’t be sped up. During this time, addresses based on your domain may not work, so use the client area or cpanel.ruachost.com instead.
A blocked port
Section titled “A blocked port”cPanel uses port 2083 (secure) and webmail uses port 2096. Some office networks, internet providers, firewalls and antivirus programs block these ports.
If example.com:2083 won’t load but other websites do, use cpanel.example.com or webmail.example.com instead. These go through the standard web port, which is almost never blocked. You can also try a different network, such as your mobile data.
Your IP address is blocked
Section titled “Your IP address is blocked”If every address times out, our firewall may have blocked your IP address, usually after repeated failed logins. Open a support ticket and include your IP address. You can find it by searching “what is my IP” on Google. We’ll unblock it.
Server maintenance
Section titled “Server maintenance”If none of the above applies, the server may be under maintenance. Contact our support team to confirm.
“Your IP address has changed. Please log in again”
Section titled ““Your IP address has changed. Please log in again””This happens when your internet provider changes your IP address while you’re logged in. To fix it:
- Log in through
cpanel.example.com(replaceexample.comwith your domain). - Use a VPN, which keeps your IP address steady.
- Ask your internet provider for a static IP address.
On a Managed VPS, you can also relax this check in WHM:
- Log in to WHM and go to Server Configuration → Tweak Settings.
- Open the Security tab.
- Set Cookie IP validation to loose, then click Save.
cPanel and Cloudflare
Section titled “cPanel and Cloudflare”If your domain uses Cloudflare, cPanel may load without icons or log you out when you open a menu. This happens because cPanel checks that every request comes from the same IP address, and Cloudflare sends requests from many different IP addresses.
To fix it, do one of the following:
- In Cloudflare, make sure the
cpanelDNS record for your domain is set to DNS only (grey cloud), not proxied (orange cloud). Then log in atcpanel.example.com. - Log in through the client area or cpanel.ruachost.com instead.
