Adding copyright text for WordPress blogs and pages

Adding a copyright notice to your WordPress site helps protect your content and establishes ownership. On ruachost.com, you can easily display copyright text at the bottom of your blog posts and pages by editing your theme files.

  • Provides proof of ownership of your content.
  • Helps deter plagiarism and unauthorized use.
  • Supports legal action if your content is misappropriated.
  • Always back up your WordPress site before making changes to theme files.
  • Alternatively, create a child theme to avoid losing edits during updates.
  1. Log in to WordPress with an administrator account.

  2. In the dashboard, go to Appearance → Theme Editor.

  3. From the right‑hand column, select functions.php.

  4. Scroll to the bottom of the file and add the following code:

    function text_under_blog($content) {
    if (!is_feed() && !is_home()) {
    $content .= '<p>Copyright &copy; ' . date('Y') . '&nbsp;' . get_bloginfo('name') . '</p>';
    }
    return $content;
    }
    add_filter('the_content', 'text_under_blog');
  5. Click Update File to save changes.

✅ This will automatically display a copyright notice at the bottom of each blog post or page.
