Moving your email to Ruachost

How you move your email depends on where it is now and which Ruachost email you’re moving to.

From another cPanel host: we’ll do it for free

Section titled “From another cPanel host: we’ll do it for free”

If your current host uses cPanel, our team moves your email accounts and their messages for free, together with your website. See Moving your website to Ruachost (free migration).

Into Ruachost Business Email: use Email Import

Section titled “Into Ruachost Business Email: use Email Import”

Business Email has a built-in Email Import tool that copies messages from almost any provider that supports IMAP, including Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook.com and other hosts. Your administrator can run it from the Business Email control panel for each mailbox. You’ll need the old server’s IMAP address and each mailbox’s password (or an app password for Gmail and Yahoo).

Into cPanel email from anywhere else: copy with an email app

Section titled “Into cPanel email from anywhere else: copy with an email app”

You can move messages yourself with a free desktop email app such as Thunderbird or Outlook:

  1. Create the email account on Ruachost first.
  2. In the email app, add your old account using IMAP, so all its folders download.
  3. Add your new Ruachost account, also using IMAP. See Email settings for apps and devices. Before your domain points to us, use your server’s hostname from your welcome email as the mail server.
  4. Select the messages or folders in the old account and drag them into the new account. The app uploads them to Ruachost.
  5. Check webmail to confirm everything arrived.

Gmail and Yahoo need an app password to connect from an email app:

  • Gmail: turn on 2-Step Verification, then create one at Google Account → Security → App passwords.
  • Yahoo: go to Account Info → Account Security → Generate app password.

Use that password instead of your normal one when adding the old account.

When your messages are copied:

  1. Point your domain to Ruachost, or change its MX records. See How to change domain nameservers.
  2. Update your phone and email apps with the new settings.
  3. Keep the old mailbox for a week or two, and copy across anything that arrived there during the switch.
