Using the DNS Manager in your client area
The DNS Manager lets you add and edit your domain’s DNS records straight from the Ruachost client area. It’s free for domains that use Ruachost’s nameservers (nsa.ruachost.com and nsb.ruachost.com), whether or not you have hosting with us.
Open the DNS Manager
Section titled “Open the DNS Manager”- Log in to the client area.
- Go to Domains → Manage DNS.
- Find your domain in the list, or search for it.
- Click the edit (pencil) icon next to the domain.
If your domain isn’t listed, click Add DNS Zone, choose the domain, and enter your hosting account’s IP address (or any IP address you want the domain to point to). See Finding the IP address for your hosting account.
The records you’ll see
Section titled “The records you’ll see”| Record | What it does |
|---|---|
| SOA and NS | Set up automatically. Leave them as they are. |
| A | Points your domain, or a subdomain, to an IPv4 address |
| CNAME | Makes a subdomain, such as www, an alias of another name |
| MX | Says which server receives your email |
| TXT | Holds text values, such as SPF, DKIM, DMARC and verification codes |
Each record has a Name (@ means the domain itself), a Type, a TTL (how long other servers may cache it, in seconds) and its value.
Add a record
Section titled “Add a record”- Click + Add Record.
- Choose the record type.
- Fill in the Name, TTL and value. For example, to make
wwwan alias of your domain: type CNAME, namewww, valueexample.com. - Click Confirm.
To change or remove a record, use the edit or delete (bin) icon next to it.
Changes are live on our nameservers straight away. Other networks pick them up as their cached copies expire, usually within a few hours. See DNS propagation explained.
More options
Section titled “More options”- Bulk Management: change records for several domains at once.
- Backup: download your DNS records, or restore them from a backup file.
- DNSSEC: add an extra layer of security. See How to enable DNSSEC.
