Missing emails

An email you’re expecting hasn’t arrived

Section titled “An email you’re expecting hasn’t arrived”
  1. Check your spam or junk folder, in webmail as well as your app. See Spam filters in cPanel.
  2. Check your filters. A rule may be moving or deleting it. In cPanel, open Email Filters and Global Email Filters; in webmail, check its filter settings.
  3. Wait a few minutes if the sender is new to you. Greylisting can delay the first message from a new sender by a few minutes.
  4. Is the mailbox full? A full mailbox bounces new mail. See Exceeding mailbox storage quotas.
  5. Trace it. In cPanel, open Track Delivery under Email, and search for the sender’s address. It shows whether the message reached our server and what happened to it.
  6. Ask the sender whether they received a bounce message, and to send you its full text.

If no email is arriving at all, the problem is probably your domain’s MX records or DNS. See the Email troubleshooting checklist.

  • Check other folders: Trash, Archive, All Mail and any custom folders. Use webmail’s search across all folders.
  • POP on another device: if a phone or computer uses POP, it may be downloading mail and deleting it from the server. Change that device to IMAP. See Email settings for apps and devices.
  • Forwarders: check cPanel Forwarders for any that send mail elsewhere without keeping a copy.
  • Someone else with access: if you think someone else logged in, change the password straight away.
