Email sending and mailbox limits
To keep our mail servers fast and trusted by Gmail, Outlook and other providers, Ruachost hosting has a few email limits.
Sending limit: 200 emails per hour
Section titled “Sending limit: 200 emails per hour”You can send up to 200 emails per hour.
Each recipient counts as one email. A single message sent to 10 people uses 10 of your 200. This includes email sent from webmail, from email apps like Outlook, and from your website (contact forms, order confirmations and WordPress notifications).
If you reach the limit, new messages wait and are sent once the hour has passed. You may see an error saying your domain has exceeded the maximum emails allowed per hour.
Mailbox size: your plan’s disk space
Section titled “Mailbox size: your plan’s disk space”There’s no separate limit on how much mail a mailbox can hold. Your email shares your hosting plan’s disk space with your website files and databases.
You can still set a limit on each mailbox, so one account can’t fill your whole plan:
- In cPanel, open Email Accounts.
- Click Manage next to the account.
- Under Allocated Storage Space, enter a limit or choose Unlimited (up to your plan’s space).
- Click Update Email Settings.
When a mailbox or your plan runs out of space, new messages bounce back to the sender. See Exceeding mailbox storage quotas to fix it.
Other limits to know
Section titled “Other limits to know”- Too many failed messages: if many of your messages can’t be delivered in an hour, sending is paused for a while. See Fixing the “max defers and failures” error.
- New senders may be delayed: greylisting can hold the first email from a new sender for a few minutes. See Greylisting in cPanel.
Need to send more?
Section titled “Need to send more?”Newsletters and bulk mail shouldn’t go through your hosting email. Large mailings can hit the hourly limit and harm your domain’s reputation. Use a newsletter service, or talk to our sales team about Ruachost SMTP for high-volume sending.
