Domain is suspended for ICANN domain verification

ICANN, the organisation that oversees international domain names, requires every registrar to confirm that the domain owner’s (registrant’s) contact details are real. This applies to .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz and other international domains. It doesn’t apply to .ng domains.

You’ll receive a verification email at the registrant email address when you:

  • register a new domain
  • transfer a domain to Ruachost
  • change the registrant’s name, organisation or email address

You only need to verify an email address once. If you’ve already verified it, new domains with the same details are verified automatically.

  1. Look for an email with a subject like “Action required: verify your domain contact details”. Check your spam folder too.
  2. Click the verification link in the email.
  3. You’ll see a confirmation page. That’s it.

The domain is suspended: its WHOIS status changes to clientHold, and your website and email stop working.

The domain is still yours. To get it back online:

  1. Log in to the client area and go to Domains → My Domains.
  2. Select the domain. If verification is pending, you’ll see a notice with a button to resend the verification email.
  3. If the email address is wrong or no longer works, correct it in Contact Information first. See Updating your domain contact details.
  4. Click the link in the new email.

Once verified, the suspension is lifted, usually within a few hours. Your site comes back as DNS updates, which can take up to 24 hours.
